Police of Azerbaijani capital brutally disperses a youth action

Today, the police of the city of Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, have violently dispersed the action of the members of the "Dalga" Youth Movement, when they tried to hold a march along the central streets of the capital.

The young people expressed their protest by walking barefoot, having taken off their footwear, without any slogans and posters. In this manner, they tried to draw public attention to the problems of education.

However, having covered some distance, they were met by a reinforced police flying squad. All the participants of the action were forced into police cars and taken away to the police station. As a result, 17 members of the "Dalga" Youth Movement were arrested. The police have explained their actions by the fact that the march was illegal.

Syada Gasanova, a representative of the Movement, has informed the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the detainees were kept at the police station for about two hours, and released after they had written their explanatory applications on this incident.

The "Dalga" youth organization was founded by a group of students who put an aim of democratizing the public life in Azerbaijan and achieving the principles of the civil society. The core members of the organization are the students of higher schools of Baku. The "Dalga" has its branches in all major Azerbaijani cities.
