Social network users doubt words of Chechen Ombudsperson about Selima Ismailova

Selima Ismailova is in her family; no one restricts her freedom, Mansur Soltaev, the Chechen Ombudsperson, has stated, posting a video of his conversation with Ismailova. The girl was forced to take part in the recording of the video, Telegram users have suggested.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 12, Chechen law enforcers arrived at the Moscow airport to pick up Selima Ismailova, who had fled from domestic violence. Advocates failed to establish her whereabouts.

Selima was born in Chechnya; her family moved to Germany when she was 12 years old. She told German authorities about domestic violence, but her mother put pressure on the girl and forced her by threats to renounce her words. In 2021, her father took Selima to Chechnya, often beat her up and threatened to kill her, the "Marem" human rights group has informed.

Mansur Soltaev, the Ombudsperson for Chechnya, has written in his Telegram channel that he had visited Selima's family in Achkhoi-Martan and found her "in a good mood." According to his story, the girl asked not to spread false information about her.

Soltaev said that "psychologists had worked on her, on her thinking," and the girl thanked for being "with her relatives." "Her father loves her very much; and she also loves her father very much," he has assured.

Besides, Soltaev has accused "Western agents of influence," "who allegedly work to save women from domestic violence in the Caucasus," of escalating the situation.

Users have doubted that Ismailova spoke voluntarily and in good condition.

"She was looking at the floor, with blank face," the user Giovanni Giorgio has noted, suggesting that "they have competently brainwashed her with threats so that she would say what they needed to the camera."

The "Caucasian Knot" has also reported that after Chechen law enforcers returned Khalimat Taramova into her family by force, she recorded a video message in which she assured that she was all right, and asked not to spread false rumours and to leave her and her family alone. Human rights defenders and social network users suggested that the video was recorded under duress.
