Video appeal of Chechen girl, Khalimat Taramova, appears in social network

Khalimat Taramova, a native of Chechnya, who had tried to escape from her family, has stated in her video appeal that everything was fine with her, and asked not to spread rumours about her harassment in the family.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 10, law enforcers took Khalimat Taramova, who was in a shelter for domestic violence victims, out to her relatives in Chechnya. According to the "Meduza"*, Taramova had earlier been in a clinic and was subjected to the ritual of "driving out genies."

Khalimat Taramova is a daughter of Ramzan Kadyrov's close associate; she was forced to flee because of domestic violence due to her sexual orientation, the "Russian LGBT Network"** claims.

In her video posted in social media, Taramova states that "people are spreading false rumours that she was killed, or held in the basement and harassed."

After Taramova was taken out of the Dagestani shelter, the "Grozny" TV Channel also showed a story in which she said to the camera that she was glad to be at home. The girl behaved unnaturally and could hardly sincerely answer questions, social network users then noted.

  • Law enforcers' provocations put gays in Dagestan under additional threat

However, as noted by rights defenders, law enforcers have no real grounds to open cases against gays under the article on extremism.
