Law enforcers report liquidation of militant grouping in Stavropol Territory

During the counterterrorist operation (CTO) conducted in the Petrovsky Farm in the Stavropol Territory, four alleged militants were killed; residents of nearby houses were evacuated, the Russian National Antiterrorism Committee (NAC) has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 8, the FSB announced a CTO in the Petrovsky Farm in the Stavropol Territory, calling prevention of a terror act as the CTO aim. Before that, the Territory was without the CTO regime for more than five years.

The alleged militants had been preparing a terror act at the railway station, law enforcers assert.

The suspects were blocked inside a house; residents of nearby houses were evacuated in order to avoid accidental victims, the RIA "Novosti" reports with reference to the NAC.

According to law enforcers, in response to an offer to lay down their arms and surrender, the militants opened fire; therefore "they had to be neutralized."

Civilians did not suffer during the CTO; there were no losses among law enforcers, the "Interfax" writes with reference to the NAC.

In the venue of the shootout, law enforcers found a submachine gun, a pistol and two improvised explosive devices (IEDs), the NAC has added.
