KBR authorities refuse from mass New Year celebrations

No mass entertainment events will be held on the New Year's Eve; no new decorations will be purchased, Kazbek Kokov, the head of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR), has announced. He assured that the saved money will be used to support military servicemen and their families.

Earlier, amid the special operation in Ukraine, authorities of the Krasnodar Territory decided to cancel the New Year concerts and festivals. Vasily Golubev, the governor of the Rostov Region, said that there would be no mass celebrations on the occasion of the New Year in the region, and that this year city heads should not spend a budget penny on the purchase of New Year decorations. Earlier, residents of the Stavropol Territory also suggested that authorities cancel the New Year celebrations.

The KBR authorities have decided not to hold any mass entertainment events for the New Year, the head of the republic, Kazbek Kokov, wrote on November 25 in his Telegram channel.

"The existing decorative structures will be enough to decorate city streets. We'll use the saved funds to support our fighters and their families," Mr Kokov has added.

He has also announced that "the children's programme, matinees and Christmas trees will take place in the usual format." According to his story, special attention will be paid to "children from military families and residents of the Kherson Region, who were forced to leave their homes and are now in the KBR."
