PFPA activist arrested on charges of drug dealing
Razi Alyshov, a member of the Ganja city branch of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), was accused of drug dealing. The court has arrested him for two months. His party colleagues are convinced that he is being persecuted for political reasons.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Razi Alyshov was detained on May 28 in Ganja on suspicion of drug dealing. The PFPA announced political motives for his persecution.
"Drug dealing is a traditional charge brought by law enforcers against authorities' critics. Also, in the city of Ganja, six months ago, Shakhin Gadjiev, another PFPA activist, was arrested on the same charge," said Mamed Ibragim, a member of the PFPA Presidium.
Arzu Abdulla, a member of the Committee for the Protection of Islamists' Rights, has also doubted the credibility of the charges brought against Alyshov.
"Oppositionists, especially believers, are often prosecuted on drug charges. Razi Alyshov, being a PFPA member, at the same time enjoyed authority among believers in Ganja," Ms Abdulla has stated.
