Eleven ethnic Armenians perish in Ukraine during military operation

Eight Armenian civilian nationals have perished in Ukraine since the start of the special military operation; and three military servicemen were killed during the hostilities. About 4000 refugees have come from Ukraine to Armenia.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 27, Armenia announced its readiness to accept refugees from Ukraine. The Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) invited the citizens of Armenia, as well as other civilians, to leave the war zone through the land borders of Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Moldova.

Since the start of the military operation in Ukraine, eleven Armenians have perished, said David Mkrtchyan, a deputy head of the Union of Armenians of Ukraine. Of them, eight were civilians; and three others were military servicemen. They died in Mariupol, Kherson and in the village of Chongar, Mr Mkrtchyan told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

All the chairs of Armenian regional Diasporas stay in their regions, including Lugansk, Kherson and Kharkov, Vilen Shatvoryan, the head of the Union of Armenians of Ukraine, has stated in the official YouTube page of the Union. "They are trying to help all the civilians, not only Armenians, with humanitarian and other issues," Mr Shatvoryan has noted.

Over the past three weeks, about 4000 citizens of Ukraine, almost all of them Armenians, have arrived in Armenia, said Denis Avtonomov, the Chargé d'Affaires of Ukraine in Armenia.
