Call of Dagestani Muftiate to reduce prices sparks scepticism in social networks
Mukhammad Mairanov, the chairman of the Dagestani Muftiate, has urged entrepreneurs to sell goods at affordable prices for people. In the opinion of Instagram users, verbal appeals will have no effect; and to combat unreasonable price growth, raids should be conducted and fines should be imposed.
On March 4, Makhachkala townspeople reported that grocery prices had risen in stores. The rouble depreciation has already told on purchase prices; therefore, retail prices will grow, Dagestani entrepreneurs have noted. On March 5, the head of Dagestan, Sergey Melikov, promised to punish entrepreneurs for unjustified increase in foodstuff prices.
"We see what hard times our entire society is going through. And in this regard, many unscrupulous entrepreneurs inflate prices above what is necessary, thereby making life very difficult for the entire population. The Muftiate of Dagestan appeals to everyone who is engaged in sales: do not inflate prices above what is necessary," Mufti Mairanov said in a video posted in the Dagestani Muftiate's Instagram page.
Some commentators have called for punishing those traders who unreasonably inflate prices. At the same time, many of them have ironically accepted the appeal of the regional Muftiate.
"Until they start punishing, no persuasions will help," the user free.mind05 has stressed.
