Astrakhan activist arrested for five days after anti-war picket

The Sovetsky District Court of Astrakhan sentenced activist Elena Baibekova to administrative arrest for five days for disobeying the police.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on February 22, even before the start of the special military operation of the Russian troops in Ukraine, activist Yelena Baibekova held a solo anti-war picket in Astrakhan. On February 27, the police detained the activist.

Elena Baibekova was accused of disobeying a lawful order of a policeman. On the evening of February 27, it became known that the activist was left at the police department for the night, and a trial was scheduled for today, her husband Alexei Baibekov said. According to him, today, at 9:00 a.m., he came to the Soviet District Court. “They always have a list of court cases on watch that are to be considered today. I asked when the Elena Baibekova’s case would be considered. They replied that after lunch, most likely. Then I went to the police department No. 1, where my wife was being kept, and I wanted to hand over water for her. At the police station-1, they told me that she was there, but was “sleeping,” so they didn’t hand over the package to her,” Alexei Baibekov said.

According to him, the police told him that his wife would be allowed to make a phone call before being sent to court. “But her mobile phone hasn’t turned on since yesterday. That’s for sure, otherwise I would have received a notification. I arrived home and began to wait. As a result, we found out by ourselves that the trial had already taken place and that she was sentenced to five days of arrest,” Alexei Baibekov said.
