Ramazan Dugiev arrested in a Magas protest case

In Nalchik, a court has placed under arrest until March 24 Ramazan Dugiev, an Ingush sign language interpreter, who is accused of causing grievous bodily harm to law enforcers during protests in Magas in 2019, advocate Visit Tsoroev reports.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that Ramazan Dugiev was detained in connection with the “rally case” when he was going to an investigator in Nalchik to give explanations, and a search was conducted in his house.

Ramazan Dugiev, a resident of Ingushetia, was placed to a SIZO (pre-trial prison) until March 24. Today, the Nalchik City Court has pronounced a pre-trial restriction measure in the form of arrest for a month and 11 days, the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent has been informed by advocate Visit Tsoroev.

“We emphasized that Ramazan had no earlier criminal records and that for three years he had not made any attempt to hide or otherwise obstruct the investigation. We also submitted to the court an appeal from the regional Centre for the Society of the Deaf and Dumb, in which they asked the court not to isolate Ramazan. However, the severity of the charge outweighed for the court all the arguments of the defence,” Visit Tsoroev said.

“We will appeal against his arrest,” the advocate noted.

Visit Tsoroev has called unjustified the accusation of his client of causing grievous bodily harm to law enforcers, since only one of the policemen was seriously injured during the rally, and the one who harmed him has already been convicted.
