Azerbaijani oppositionist suspected of drug dealing
Shakhin Gadjiev, a member of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), has been detained on suspicion of illegal drug circulation. His party colleagues believe that Gadjiev is persecuted for his political activities.
"Gadjiev was handcuffed and taken from his home on November 26. His home was searched ... His rights have been grossly violated: 48 hours have passed since his detention; they were either to release him, or to appoint the measure of his freedom restraint by a court decision," Natig Adilov, the PFPA spokesman, has stated.
"Shakhin Gadjiev works as a chess coach; but he is a man with an active civil position. He is one of the most active members of our party in the city of Ganja. He is also active in social networks. He was detained several times this year; and now, apparently, they decided to punish him severely," Mr Adilov has added.
The party members believe that "authorities continue repressions against the PFPA," the head of the press service has added. "Currently, eight PFPA activists are in jail. They were arrested on trumped-up charges. Besides, dozens of activists were arrested this year," he has noted.
Let us remind you that on October 25, Malik Rzaev, a PFPA member was detained in Sumgait on suspicion of drug possession. He has stated that he was forced to testify under torture.
