Norwegian media: police kill a native of Chechnya in Oslo
In Oslo, the police shot and killed a man who threatened passers-by with a knife and attacked police officers. The killed suspect was a native of Chechnya, who had an earlier criminal record for stabbing a passer-by, Norwegian media reported.
The incident has taken place this morning in the Bislett neighbourhood of Oslo. The man threatened the passers-by with a knife and then attacked the police officers, after which they opened fire, and the attacker died from the wounds he got, the RIA “Novosti” reports with reference to the NRK TV Company.
Police inspector Egil Jorgen Brecke says that the police have identified the suspect, but are not ready to disclose any details about him. “There is currently no information on the case indicating a terror act,” said the police inspector as quoted by the Norwegian newspaper VG.
According to the newspaper, the killed suspect was a native of Chechnya, sentenced in December 2020 by the Oslo District Court to compulsory psychiatric treatment for attacking a passer-by with a knife in June 2019. Then the native of Chechnya, who wounded a man with a knife, was found guilty of attempted murder, but the court ruled that the defendant was not sane at the time of the crime.
