On August 9-15, 2021, no one fell victim to armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

Men sentenced in case on attack on Nalchik complain about torture

Two men sentenced in a case on the attack on Nalchik on October 13, 2005, upheld their complaints to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR). In response to questions from the court, their lawyers noted that the law enforcers’ actions should be regarded as torture and that the complaints about ill-treatment had not been effectively investigated.

“We state that what they did to the complainants, including beatings and use of electric current, should be classified as torture. The state denies that the law enforcers were involved in the torture. However, the authorities did not bother to somehow explain the injuries our clients had got,” lawyer Natalia Sekretaryova said.

Every month, quarter, and every year, the “Caucasian Knot” posts statistics with regard to victims of the armed conflict in the regions of the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD) in Section “Northern Caucasus: Statistics of Victims”.
