One person killed during armed conflict in Northern Caucasus in Quarter 2 of 2021

From April 1 to June 30, 2021, in the course of the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus, one person was killed. These are the results of the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from open sources.

At 6:30 p.m. Moscow time on April 28, in an outskirt of Nazran, near the North-Ossetia-Ingush border, law enforcers stopped a tinted Toyota Camry car to inspect it. The driver put up armed resistance and was killed by return fire. The casualty, Magomed Kozdoev, was a resident of the village of Kantyshevo, who had earlier been put on the wanted list, a law enforcement source has reported.

One of the Ingush law enforcement sources said that a member of an illegal armed formation (IAF) had been killed in the shootout. The next day, while citing another source, the "Fortanga.org" reported on its Telegram channel that the killed Kodzoev "had been wanted in connection with the use of violence against state officials, but did not take part in any IAF."

On April 22, an armed incident occurred in Kizlyar (Dagestan). During a detention attempt, two people opened fire at law enforcers from unidentified firearms. One of them immediately surrendered, while the second one ran into an apartment building at No. 26 Shevchenko Street and hid in one of the apartments in the fourth level. The area was blocked, and the second attacker soon surrendered to the police as well. Nobody was hurt during the incident. One of the detainees was Shamil Omarov, born in 1988, the other was Zubairugadji Yusupov, born in 1988, both are residents of the Stavropol Territory.

In May and June 20201, no victims of the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus were registered.

In Quarter 2 of 2021, no victims of the armed conflict were recorded in Dagestan, Kabardino-Balkaria, Karachay-Cherkessia, Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, Chechnya and the Stavropol Territory.

The statistics cited cannot accurately reflect the number of victims. Not all the data gets into news bulletins. It is not always possible to check how true the statements of law enforcement bodies are; and new data on the events that happened during the reporting period sometimes become known after the publication of statistics on the "Caucasian Knot".
