Nagorno-Karabakh Ombudsperson reports shooting from Shushi

On July 15, in Shushi, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces fired short submachine gun popples in the direction of Stepanakert, Gegam Stepanyan, the Nagorno-Karabakh Ombudsperson, has stated. He believes that to prevent such incidents, clear inquiry mechanisms should be introduced.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 14, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence (MoD) reported two cases of shelling of Azerbaijani positions near the city of Shusha (the Armenian name is Shushi). According to the MoD, "illegal Armenian armed detachments" opened machine and submachine gun fire from the part of the territory of Azerbaijan where Russian peacemakers are temporarily deployed.

On June 15, from the city of Shushi, occupied by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, for four-five times automatic rounds were fired in the direction of Stepanakert, the "Panorama.am" reported with reference to Gegam Stepanyan, the Nagorno-Karabakh Ombudsperson.

Azerbaijan is violating the ceasefire agreement, and in recent days has increasingly resorted to provocative actions in order to intimidate the population and create an atmosphere of tension, Mr Stepanyan has stated.

It is necessary to introduce clear mechanisms for investigating incidents in order, in Stepanyan's opinion, to exclude provocations and achieve containment of Azerbaijan, the "Sputnik.Armenia" reports.
