Tbilisi rally commemorates killed cameraman Lekso Lashkarava

The protesters have commemorated the cameraman of the "TV-Pirveli" Company, who died after being beaten up, demanded resignation of the Georgian government and read out the names of the journalists who had been beaten up while covering the gay pride parade in Tbilisi.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 11, journalists and opposition supporters went to large-scale protests in Tbilisi and other large cities of Georgia, demanding resignation of the government and an investigation into the death of Lekso Lashkarava, a cameraman of the "TV-Pirveli" Company. Irakli Garibashvili, the Prime Minister, expressed no intent to follow protesters' demand to resign. After that, six opposition politicians and journalists, after a scuffle with securities, broke into the session of the Georgian parliament and disrupted it by demanding resignation of the government.

On Monday evening, another rally began in front of the Georgian parliament building demanding resignation of Garibashvili and his entire government.

Vakho Sanaya, an employee of the "TV-Pirveli", expressed confidence that the journalists achieve resignation of the government.

On July 1 to 5, the "LGBT Week" was held in Tbilisi. On July 5, opponents of the gay pride parade attacked journalists and injured 53 media professionals. On July 6, an action was held in Tbilisi in support of victims of the July 5 violence; and nearby there was a counter-action of LGBT opponents. The actions turned into clashes that ended in detentions.
