Armenian military forces on alert amid border conflict

The Fifth Army Corps has been put on alert, the Armenian Ministry of Defence (MoD) reports. The Armenian Foreign Minister accused the Azerbaijani military forces of a provocation on the border with the Syunik Region and notified the Russian authorities about the incident.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that according to the report voiced by the authorities of the Goris city, today, Azerbaijani soldiers have advanced three kilometres deep into the Syunik Region of Armenia and attempted to advance into the Black Lake area. Negotiations with the Azerbaijani side are underway, the Armenian MoD reports.

The Azerbaijani military forces have occupied the height and claimed that this is the territory of Azerbaijan. They refer to a 1974 map, reports Andranik Kocharyan, the chairman of the parliamentary commission on defence and national security. The MP has noted that the height is not a strategic point and emphasized that the discord should be resolved through negotiations.
