MoD reports on end of building of peacemakers' base in Karabakh

Military builders have finished setting up 30 modular townships to accommodate peacemakers in Nagorno-Karabakh, the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has informed.

On November 10, 2020, first planes with Russian soldiers flew to Nagorno-Karabakh; and the Russian MoD began deploying its peacemaking contingent there. Units of the special medical detachment have set up a field hospital at the airport in Stepanakert to service both Russian peacemakers and civilian local residents.

"Within four months, we have commissioned and populated 30 block-modular townships," said Major General Yuri Khort, the head of the construction office in the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh. The townships are intended for 250, 60, 40, 30 and 15 people; each of them includes a gym, a bathhouse, a medical centre and a kitchen.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported earlier that since the start of the demining operation in Karabakh, sappers have cleared 2087 hectares of land, more than 643 kilometres of roads and 1775 houses from unexploded ordnances. They also found and defused 25,608 explosive items. Besides, Russian peacemakers are regularly ensuring safe passage of Azerbaijani militaries in Karabakh.
