In the 1st quarter of 2021, 19 people fell victim to armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

In the period from January 1 to March 31, 2021, at least 19 people fell victim to the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. Of them, eight were killed, one perished, and 10 others were wounded. These are the results of the calculations run by the “Caucasian Knot” based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

The death toll of eight killed people includes seven persons involved, according to the official information, in the armed underground, and one man who opened fire on two inspectors of the patrol-and-post service (known as PPS) in response to a request to produce his ID. One perished was a civilian. Besides, eight law enforcers, one militant, and one civilian were wounded.

The “Caucasian Knot” notes that the provided statistics cannot reflect the number of victims with 100 percent accuracy. Not all information is included in the news reports. It is not always possible to check the reliability of the statements voiced by the law enforcement bodies. Besides, new facts about the events of the reporting period become often known after the statistics had been already published on the “Caucasian Knot”.

Meanwhile, in January, 12 people fell victim to the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus, including six suspected members of the armed underground killed and six law enforcers wounded. In February, four persons fell victim to the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. Of them, one criminal was killed, and three law enforcers were wounded. In March, three persons fell victim to the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus, including one killed militant, one perished civilian, and one wounded civilian.

In Chechnya, in the first quarter of 2021, during the armed conflict, five law enforcers were wounded and six suspected members of the armed underground were killed.

In Karachay-Cherkessia, two law enforcers were wounded during the first quarter of 2021.

In Dagestan, a militant and a criminal were killed, and one law enforcer was wounded during the first quarter of 2021.

In Ingushetia, one militant was wounded during the first quarter of 2021. One civilian was killed, and another was wounded.

In Kabardino-Balkaria, the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, and the Stavropol Territory, no victims to the armed conflict were registered in the first quarter of 2021.

Earlier, in the 4th quarter of 2020, at least 26 people fell victim to the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. Of them, 18 were killed and eight others were injured, including 15 people involved, according to the official information, in the armed underground, and three law enforcers. All the wounded were employees of the law enforcement bodies.
