Yerevan: veterans come out to support Armenia's General Staff

About 300 veterans of military operations in Nagorno-Karabakh have come out to the building of the Armenian Ministry of Defence (MoD) to support the General Staff and demand the resignation of Premier Nikol Pashinyan.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 25, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia called on Nikol Pashinyan to resign. The latter treated it as an attempt at a coup d'etat and decreed to dismiss Onik Gasparyan, the head of the General Staff. However, the Armenian President, Armen Sargsyan has twice refused to sign this decree. The former Armenian military personnel scheduled a rally in support of their commander Onik Gasparyan for March 6.

On March 6, about 300 veterans of military operations in Nagorno-Karabakh went out to protest near the building of the Armenian MoD in an outskirt of Yerevan. They are the former servicemen of Military Unit No. 51191, who went to a rally in support of Onik Gasparyan, the head of the General Staff, the "News.am" has reported.

The rally has also demanded the resignation of the Armenian Prime Minister, Nikol Pashinyan, the RIA "Novosti" has noted; while the "Sputnik Armenia" has added that the veterans stated that they support both the General Staff and its head. "The government is no longer able to fulfil its mission; it must soberly assess its strength and capabilities and resign," the "Sputnik Armenia" quotes the Reserve Colonel Karen Sarkisyan as saying.
