Two colony employees detained after video of Vazha Bochorishvili's beating
Employees of the penal colony in Yaroslavl have been detained within the case of beating up inmates after the video was posted showing the torture of Vazha Bochorishvili, a Georgian citizen, and another person.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in January 2021, the NGO "Public Verdict" received a record of beating Vazha Bochorishvili in the colony; he died in spring of 2017. The Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) has reported on the initiation of the case after the video was posted, although earlier, Bochorishvili's death was officially attributed to his liver disease.
"Yaroslavl sees first detentions after the release of new videos showing inmates' torture. For the time of the inquiry, both detainees are removed from service," says the Telegram channel "ReportVerdikt".
Let us remind you that for several years, human rights defenders kept publicizing facts of torture in the colony located in the Yaroslavl Region, where prisoners had been brutally beaten. The "Public Verdict" has posted a video of torturing convicts, including, Khasdin Murtazaliev, a native of Chechnya. In January 2020, for beating him, two colony employees received conditional prison terms. Then, Murtazaliev noted that not all the FSIN (Russian Federal Penitentiary Service) employees involved in inmates' bullying faced trial.
