Parents of Armenian conscripts achieve meeting with Pashinyan

The Prime Minister of Armenia has met the parents protesting against sending their sons-conscripts to Nagorno-Karabakh. Nikol Pashinyan made no promises and intends to answer questions at the next meeting.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that despite the conclusion of the truce, conscripts from Armenia continue serving in Karabakh. Their parents fear that their sons may fall victim to acts of sabotage or become prisoners of war (POWs). In January, parents of the conscripts to be sent to Nagorno-Karabakh held protests in Yerevan. The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has pointed to the need to replace those soldiers who should return to Armenia, but protesters regard these arguments unconvincing.

On January 13, the MoD of Nagorno-Karabakh reported that Vardan Kirakosyan, a military serviceman of the Defence Army, was wounded as a result of shelling from the Azerbaijani side. On the following day, conscripts' parents held a protest action at the building of the Armenian government, demanding safety guarantees for their children.
