Aliev announces construction of railway to Shusha
This year, it is planned to start the construction of a railway from Fizuli to Shusha, the Azerbaijani President, Ilham Aliev, has stated.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the capture of Shusha in November was a key event in the autumn escalation of the Karabakh conflict. With the loss of Shusha, Armenia agreed to conclude the peace agreement, under which the Nagorno-Karabakh authorities lost control over two-thirds of the territory.
The Azerbaijani authorities has already announced about their plans to build a road to Shusha within 1.5 years. On January 5, President Aliev announced the construction of an international airport in Fizuli, which will reduce the travel time to Shusha for foreign tourists.
Azerbaijan intends to build a railway from Goradiz to Shusha, President Ilham Aliev has informed. "The construction of the Goradiz-Fizuli and then Fizuli-Shusha railway is envisaged," the APA News Agency quoted him as saying on January 8.
At the current stage, the project is being designed, and the financing thereof is being approved. It is scheduled to begin the construction of the railway this year, he has added. "It is necessary to approve the implementation schedule. Of course, this road will be commissioned after the return of citizens to Shusha," the "Interfax-Azerbaijan" quoted Ilham Aliev as saying on January 8.
Let us remind you that earlier, Anar Nadjafli, the head of the press service of the Azerbaijani State Agency for Highways, reported that the construction of a new road to Shusha was launched in mid-November and is in full swing. According to his story, a new road 101.5 kilometres long starts from the village of Akhmedbeili in the Fizuli District and passes through the city of Fizuli, and the Khodjavend and Khodjali Districts.
