Azerbaijan and Armenia react to French parliament's resolution on Nagorno-Karabakh

The resolution on the need to recognize the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh, adopted by the Lower House of the French Parliament, presents the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict as an interreligious clash, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) declares.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that earlier, the Azerbaijani parliament had called for the exclusion of France from the OSCE. France still does not recognize Nagorno-Karabakh as a republic, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs assures.

Meanwhile, the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has welcomed the decision of the Lower House of the French Parliament on the need to recognize the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh. According to Anna Nagdalyan, the press secretary for the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the document is of great international importance, the "Aysor.am" reports.

Baku has harshly condemned the French parliament's resolution. The Azerbaijani authorities note that the above resolution casts a shadow on bilateral relations, contradicts the agreement between the leaders of Azerbaijan, Russia, and Armenia of November 10, and also "seriously undermines efforts to ensure peace in the region and the world."

Let us remind you that in October, against the background of the hostilities, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan called on the international community to recognize the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh. Meanwhile, Armenia has not yet done that. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliev announced that he would sever diplomatic relations with the countries that recognize the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh.
