Russian helicopter shot down in Armenia

A Mi-24 helicopter, which was escorting a motor convoy of the Russian military base through the territory of Armenia, was shot down from an anti-aircraft missile system near the border with the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Russia reported.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the fighting in the Karabakh conflict zone began on September 27.

Today, at about 5:30 p.m. Moscow time, a Russian Mi-24 helicopter has crashed in Armenia near the village of Yeraskh, the Russian MoD reports.

"While escorting the motor convoy of the 102nd Russian military base through the territory of the Republic of Armenia, in the air space near the Armenian village of Yeraskh near the border with the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic, the Russian Mi-24 helicopter was shelled from a man-portable air defence system. A missile hit the helicopter, and it lost control and fell in a mountainous area on the territory of Armenia," reported the Russian MoD as quoted by the RIA "Novosti".
