Armenia tells ECtHR about Turkey's intervention in Karabakh conflict

Armenian authorities have accused Turkey of involvement in the shelling of settlements in Nagorno-Karabakh and asked the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) to react to this. The Armenian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has cited data on the use of banned cluster shells by Azerbaijan.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported referring to analysts that Armenia and Azerbaijan will not go to unleash a full-scale war if third countries don't get involved in the conflict. Armenia believes that the Turkish air forces are already taking part in the conflict.

According to the "Novaya Gazeta" newspaper, Turkey is recruiting mercenaries in Syria to participate in the Karabakh conflict on the side of Azerbaijan, and Armenians from Syria and Lebanon are also moving to the war area.

Egishe Kirakosyan, Armenia's representative at the ECtHR, wrote on the Facebook that the complaint claims that Turkey is supporting Azerbaijan and actively participating in battles by shelling civilians in Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia.

Earlier, Artsrun Ovannisyan, the spokesman of the Armenian MoD, stated that Azerbaijan used multiple missile launchers when shelling Karabakh.

Arman Tatoyan, Armenia's Ombudsperson, has stated, in his turn, that on September 27-28 and October 2-4, the Azerbaijani Army shelled Stepanakert from LAR-160 and "Smerch" multiple missile launch systems, as well as the dwelling settlements of Gadrut and Shog. The use of cluster shells is part of the ethnic cleansings of Armenians, the Ombudsperson asserts.

Let us note here an important novelty of the new round of the conflict that has lasted for more than 30 years – the fighting is underway along the entire frontline; and the opposing sides have introduced the martial law and announced mobilization.
