Advocate claims investigators' violations in Yagublu's case

On Monday (September 21), the court conducted an inquiry into the case of Azerbaijani oppositionist, Tofig Yagublu, with numerous procedural violations, said his advocate intending to petition to stop the criminal case. After 17 days of hunger strike, Yagublu's health is gradually recovering, his daughter has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Yagublu demanded to acquit him in the hooliganism case. He accused the court of "fulfilling a political order" and responded to the calls to end his hunger strike that he would not back down from his demands.

On September 18, Yagublu was discharged from the hospital and returned home, his daughter, Nigyar Khazi, has reported, noting that the threat to his life had passed away.

Adil Geibulla, a doctor, said that Tofig's hunger strike had come to a critical point, and should his release had been delayed for one or two days, the negative processes in his body would have become irreversible.

Elshan Gasanov, the head of the Centre for Monitoring Political Prisoners, believes that Yagublu's hunger strike has achieved its goal.

"The fact that the authorities, who had so persistently tried to imprison him, were forced to change his freedom restriction measure due to international pressure, in the realities of Azerbaijan is equal to acquittal," Mr Gasanov has explained.
