Court postpones consideration of Yagublu's complaint until September 28

The consideration of the appeal complaint lodged by the opposition politician, Tofig Yagublu, who has been on a hunger strike for 16 days already, is scheduled for September 28. Tofig's daughter has treated this judgement as "her father's death sanctioning."

With his hunger strike, Tofig Yagublu demands to cancel his conviction and acquit him in the case on disorderly conduct. Even during the trial, the oppositionist claimed that the trial was biased. In response to calls to stop his protest action, Tofig Yagublu repeatedly stated that he would not back down from his demands. The activist called himself a victim of the provocation. Tofig Yagublu asserted that "he would either be released or would die in custody."

Elchin Sadygov, an advocate, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the consideration of the appeal complaint against the Yagublu's verdict was appointed on the latest date stipulated by the law.

"Today was the deadline for lodging a complaint against the verdict passed by the first-instance court to the Baku Court of Appeal (BCA), and for the appointment of the date for its consideration. Only at the very end of the working day we were informed that the consideration of the complaint was scheduled for September 28," said the advocate.

Nigyar Khazi, Tofig's daughter, has condemned the BCA's ruling to consider the complaint on September 28.

"Believe that the authorities have sanctioned the death of Tofig Yagublu. My father has decided to continue his hunger strike; and he simply will not live up to this date. All the responsibility for this will rest with the authorities, headed by President Ilham Aliev. Tofig Yagublu must be immediately released," Ms Khazi wrote in her Facebook page.
