Woman from Grozny worried about her son's disappearance after detention

Movsar Umarov, a resident of Grozny, was detained for watching the broadcasts of Tumso Abdurakhmanov, a critic of Chechen authorities, and then disappeared, his mother has stated. The woman was told that her son had fled from law enforcers.

The fact that the 33-year-old Movsar Umarov disappeared after being detained by law enforcers was reported by his mother, Eset Umarova, in an audio appeal posted on September 4 on the "Free Caucasus" YouTube channel.

According to her story, law enforcers explained that the reason for her son's detention was his listening to Tumso Abdurakhmanov's broadcasts.

According to the mother, on August 18, Movsar's relatives were again summoned by law enforcers, who told a cousin of Umarova's husband that the young man had allegedly fled in Ingushetia, where he was taken in order to invite one of the militants to a meeting; and that they did not know where he was then. The mother suggests that her son could have fallen victim to extrajudicial execution.
