Son of President of Ichkeria Maskhadov claims pressure on his relatives in Chechnya

Viskhan Khadjimuradov, a nephew and an associate of the President of Ichkeria, was forced to speak on camera in Chechnya, claimed a son of Aslan Maskhadov, living in Europe. The "Grozny" TV Channel announced an interview with Viskhan Khadjimuradov, in which he criticized supporters of the Chechnya's independence who had migrated to Europe.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Aslan Maskhadov, President of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria, was killed in a special operation in the village of Tolstoy-Yurt on March 8, 2005. In October 2013, the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) refused to reconsider the decision on the complaint filed by Aslan Maskhadov's relatives, who requested the Strasbourg Court to hold Russia responsible for his death. Earlier, the ECtHR pronounced the decision that Russia was not responsible for the Aslan Maskhadov's death.

The Chechen Republic of Ichkeria was an unrecognized separatist entity (1991-2000), created after the collapse of the USSR on part of the territory of the former Chechen-Ingush Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic. The entity was liquidated by the Russian federal troops during the second Chechen military campaign. The election, won by Aslan Maskhadov, was held in January 1997.

According to Anzor Maskhadov, his relatives in Russia were repeatedly subjected to pressure. "They were blackmailed, forced to hand over some demands to me, and they also got threats of physical violence," Aslan Maskhadov wrote on his Instagram page.

Instagram users questioned the sincerity of the statement voiced by Viskhan Khadjimuradov.
