Increase in donations questions efficiency of Kadyrov Foundation

Six billion roubles donated to the Kadyrov Foundation is a colossal amount; the investment thereof into the republic's economy should have an obvious result, Orientalists have noted. In his turn, Ruslan Kutaev, the head of the Assembly of Caucasian Nations, has suggested that the amount of donations was increased artificially in order to ascribe a number of charity actions to the Foundation.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the "MBKh Media" reported that in 2019, the Chechen Akhmat Kadyrov Foundation raised a record 6.075 billion roubles of donations, which is 2.7 times more than in 2018.

Mr Kutaev has linked the increase in the Foundation's profits with the investigations conducted by the blogger Tumso Abdurakhmanov. According to the latter, the Foundation had ascribed to itself the purchases that he had never made.

Meanwhile, Ruslan Kutaev rejected the version that the replenishment of the Foundation had to do with an increase in the amount of funds collected from employees of the state sector.

It's difficult to judge about the sources of incomes to the Kadyrov Foundation, since they are non-transparent, said Svetlana Gannushkina, the chair of the "Civil Assistance" Committee.

Mikhail Chernyshov, an economist, has recalled that the Foundation owns 10 commercial companies. It helps Kadyrov to become more popular among the population, he believes.

Alexei Malashenko, an Orientalist does not believe that reports of pro-government media have formed the image of Ramzan Kadyrov as a benefactor and nation's father among the majority of Chechen residents. "The attitude towards the Foundation and Kadyrov is restrained," Mr Malashenko has suggested.
