Mass events on Eid al-Fitr cancelled for KBR residents

The Muftiate of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) has urged Muslims to celebrate Eid al-Fitr (Uraza Bayram) with their families, and not to visit cemeteries and other people in the conditions of the restrictions imposed because of the epidemic.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that this year, the holy Muslims' month of Ramadan began on April 24 and will end on May 23, on the eve of the Eid al-Fitr holiday. Imams of Northern Caucasus have stated that because of coronavirus, Ramadan is held without collective prayers. Given the restrictive measures, residents of Southern of Russia are praying and holding their evening de-fasting at home.

The KBR's Spiritual Administration of Muslims (SAM, or Muftiate) has decided to cancel the holiday prayer and other mass events dedicated to Eid al-Fitr, Khazretali Dzasezhev, the republic's Mufti, has announced.

"The situation remains stably grave; it's too early to relax; it's necessary to continue the self-isolation regime," the SAM has written in the Instagram.

As of May 18, 2020, a total of 1824 people had been infected in the KBR; seven patients died.

The Mufti has called the cancellation of mass events "a necessary measure" and called on Muslims "not to visit the relatives' burial places, not to gather for solemn celebrations, and not to visit each other."
