Armenian blogger claims beating after posting video about coronavirus patient

After posting a humorous video about a coronavirus-infected woman from the Armenian city of Echmiadzin, who had hid her symptoms and infected her relatives, the author of the video, the Armenian blogger, Sergey Sargsyan, was beaten up.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 16, 2020, the Armenian government decided to impose the state of emergency in the country in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Echmiadzin was treated by the authorities a special risk zone, where a sick local woman had returned from Italy. She hid her symptoms and visited her relative's engagement, a hairdresser and a jeweller. After that, her close friends and relatives fell ill; and today, several coronavirus patients in Armenia have to do with this Echmiadzin case.

The video clip by blogger Sargsyan is about the woman from Echmiadzin, who is guilty of infecting several dozen people with coronavirus. The blogger calls the woman "Aunt from Echmiadzin" and thanks her jokingly for solving the problem of traffic jams in Yerevan, the "Armlink.am" reports.

Four hours after the video was posted, three unidentified men entered the store owned by the Sargsyan family, asked if he had been the author of the video clip, then threw him to the ground and began beating him up, the blogger wrote in his social network page. The blogger's wife and the store staff interfered into the brawl, after which the men disappeared.

"The police have found out that (those who had beaten me up) were relatives of the 'Aunt from Echmiadzin'," the blogger wrote in social networks (translated by the "Caucasian Knot").

The Armenian police have launched a check into the incident, Zarzand Gabrielyan, the head of the PR police division, has informed.
