Armenia declares state of emergency

The Armenian authorities announced a state of emergency until April 14 to prevent the coronavirus epidemic.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today, in Armenia, the number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus infection has grown to 30. More than 300 people have been placed under quarantine.

Today, at an emergency meeting, the Cabinet of Ministers of Armenia pronounced a decision to declare a state of emergency in the country, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports with reference to the Armenian government's YouTube channel. Procedures are being tightened at the ground and air checkpoints, and public events, including rallies, strikes, religious and sports events with the number of participants exceeding 20 people are forbidden. Armenian citizens who still stay in risk countries, the list of which is approved by the Armenian Ministry for Public Health, are expected to return home before March 17.

The state of emergency will be valid from 6:30 p.m. on March 16 to 9:00 a.m. on April 14. A commandant's office will be formed to act during the above-mentioned period, and it will be headed by Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan.
