Bagaudin Khautiev becomes sixth defendant in case on extremist community

Today, investigators have charged Bagaudin Khautiev, a participant of a rally in Magas, with participation in an extremist community, which, according to the law enforcement bodies, had been created by protest leaders in Ingushetia.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Akhmed Barakhoev and Malsag Uzhakhov were charged with creating an extremist community, while activists Barakh Chemurziev, Ismail Nalgiev, and Zarifa Sautieva were charged with participation in the above extremist community. Human rights defenders said they would defend the interests of the Ingush activists up to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR), and the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" called on the law enforcement bodies to stop criminal proceedings against the Ingush activists.

On March 27, 2019, law enforcers tried to disperse the activists who stayed in the square in the city of Magas after the sanctioned rally. As a result, clashes occurred. Already in April, mass arrests of rally participants began. According to the estimates of the "Caucasian Knot", at least 96 activists were persecuted, and criminal cases were initiated against at least 29 of them.

Musa Malsagov is also suspected of creating an extremist community, and Akhmed Pogorov is involved in the case as a defendant suspected of participating in the above community.

Today, the investigators have informed Bagaudin Khautiev that he is also involved in the case as a defendant under another article, advocate Aralbek Dumanishev has told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. "Bagaudin Khautiev is charged with involvement in an extremist community," the advocate said.
