Azerbaijan accuses Armenia of shelling attacks on two border villages

The ceasefire in the Karabakh conflict zone and on the border with Armenia was violated 22 times, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Azerbaijan reported.

Earlier, on January 7, the Ministry of Defence of Armenia claimed an attempt of the Azerbaijani troops to advance on the front line. In turn, the Azerbaijani Border Guard Service reported about death of a border guard as a result of a sniper shot from the Armenian side. However, Azerbaijani analysts interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" found the risk of escalation of the conflict after the incident to be minimal.

During 24 hours, the positions of the Azerbaijani troops were shelled in two villages bordering Armenia, including Kemerli and Guschu Airym in the Gazakh District, and on the nameless heights of the same municipality, the press service of the Azerbaijani MoD reports.

In 2019, the Ministry of Defence of Nagorno-Karabakh registered a record low number of shelling attacks on its positions over 10 years, and Azerbaijan reported an almost complete ceasefire at the front line in the period from June 20 to July 17, 2019.
