Blogger Guseinov tells about beating by law enforcers after picket in Baku

On December 27, law enforcers stopped the picket held by the activist, Mekhman Guseinov, in support of the rapper, Parviz Guluzade; they took him out of the city and beat him up, Mr Guseinov has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the rapper, Parviz Guluzade, known under the pseudonym "Paster", was arrested for 30 days under articles on petty hooliganism and disobedience to the police. Activists have supposed that the rapper is persecuted for his creative activities and political views.

On December 27, several activists, including Guseinov, held an action in Baku demanding to release the rapper; and the blogger was detained.

"They threw me to the ground, sat on me, beat me up in all parts of the body, and committed actions inappropriate for men," Guseinov has stated.

He has linked the beating not only with the above action, but also with his participation in the municipal elections and the intention to run for the parliament.

The municipal elections were held in Azerbaijan on December 23. Anar Mamedli, the chairman of the Centre for Monitoring Elections and Democracy Training, has noted that Guseinov is "a popular blogger, especially in the dwelling settlement, where he was running", and "his anti-corruption stories are very popular among local residents."
