Georgian Communists demand to return Stalin's monument to Gori

On Stalin's birthday, members of the Georgian Communist Party and their supporters held a rally in his homeland, the city of Gori, demanding to reinstall hat the monument to the former Soviet leader, which was dismantled nine years ago.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that residents of Gori had collected signatures for the restoration of the monument; and in 2014, they held a series of protests demanding the reinstall the monument. In December 2017, a bust of Stalin was installed in central Gori.

At the rally, it was announced that the Communist Party of Georgia plans to start collecting signatures for the return of the Stalin's monument, the "News-Georgia" reports.

Lat us remind you that in recent years, monuments to Stalin have been erected in several regions of Russia. Thus, in May 2019, the third monument in four years was installed in the Stavropol Territory. Locals took this fact enthusiastically, while authorities declare a dual attitude to Stalin's person and are condescending to attempts to exalt him, Oleg Orlov, the board chairman of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial", has stated.
