Magas rally participant Adam Badiev left in custody

Today, in the Stavropol Territory, the court has extended for three months the detention of Ingush activist Adam Badiev. The defence has announced the intention to appeal against the extension of the arrest and the decision to consider the case outside Ingushetia.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Adam Badiev was detained on April 11 and then arrested. The activist is accused of using violence against a public officer at a rally in Magas on March 27.

On March 26, residents of Ingushetia extended a protest action in a square in Magas without a sanction from the authorities, and that resulted in clashes with law enforcers on the other day. In early April, the Ingush police began to arrest oppositionists.

Today, Gennady Voloshenko, Judge of the Zheleznovodsk City Court, decided to extend Adam Badiev's arrest until March 11, 2020.

Magomet Gandaur-Egi, an advocate of the defendant, said that he would appeal against the court's decision to extend the arrest. "According to Article 109 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, a term of detention exceeding six months cannot be chosen in case of a crime of moderate severity. In my practice, this happens for the first time. I believe the extension of my client's arrest can be explained by political motives, and not by the law," the advocate told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Besides, Magomet Gandaur-Egi intends to file a complaint against the decision of the Supreme Court (SC) concerning the consideration of the case in the Stavropol Territory. "The trial should take place at the place of the alleged crime, that is, at the Magas District Court in this case. The place of consideration was changed arbitrarily. There was no reason for such changes," said the defender Adam Badiev.
