US Senate recognizes Armenian Genocide

The US Senate has passed a resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) responded with gratitude.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 29, the US House of Representatives approved a resolution on recognizing the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire. Congressmen passed the resolution to strengthen the US influence in the Middle East, political analysts suggested.

49 US states and the District of Columbia recognized as the genocide the massacres of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire in the years 1915-1917.

Earlier, the resolution had been blocked three times at the request of the White House, but on December 12, it was approved unanimously, the Armenian MFA reports.

"The unanimous adoption of the resolution is a decisive step on the path to justice. It is a tribute to the victims and their dignity," emphasized Armenian Foreign Minister Zokhrab Mnatsakanyan as quoted on the Armenian MFA's page on Facebook.

"This is a historic event," Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan responded on Facebook to the decision of the US Senate.
