Pickets in support of Dagestani journalist Gadjiev arouse weak Muscovites' interest

Two pickets in support of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, held on December 9 in Moscow, attracted attention of only a few passers-by already familiar with the journalist's case.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that colleagues and friends of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, the editor of the religion section of the "Chernovik" weekly, hold regular pickets in his support.

Since this June, Abdulmumin Gadjiev is under arrest under the case of financing terrorism. On December 9, he complained to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) about his unjustified arrest.

On December 9, activists held two pickets in Moscow in Gadjiev's support. Four people took part in the first one; during the picket, eight passers-by came up to it and asked about the aim of the action.

The second picket was held near the reception office of the Russian president. Four activists took part in it, said Khalid Omarov, a picketer.

The aim of the pickets in Moscow is to draw people's attention to persecutions of Gadjiev, Tambiev and Rizvanov, Mr Omarov has explained. "In our opinion, these detentions are a flagrant violation of human rights," he has added, regretting that passers-by revealed low interest in the picket at the president's reception office.
