Man accused of Ibragim Eldjarkiev's murder arrested in absentia

In Moscow, a court pronounced a decision to arrest Kureish Kartoev, a native of Ingushetia, who was put on the wanted list for the murder of Ibragim Eldjarkiev, the chief of the Ingush Centre for Combating Extremism (CCE, also known as Centre "E"), and his brother. This has been reported today by the court.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 2, Ibragim Eldjarkiev was shot dead in Moscow. His brother Akhmed Eldjarkiev, a doctor at a Moscow hospital, also fell victim to the attack. The law enforcement bodies put on the wanted list Kureish Kartoev, a 46-year-old native of Ingushetia, a member of the influential Ingush Batal-Khadji community, on suspicion of the murder. On November 2, entrepreneur Kureish Kartoev was in Moscow, and he disappeared after the murder of the Eldjarkiev brothers, the "Sobesednik" (Interlocutor) reported on November 12.

According to sources, the murder of Ibragim Eldjarkiev could be a result of blood feud amid his conflict with members of the Batal-Khadji community, one of which leaders, Ibragim Belkharoev, was killed in 2018.

The Basmanny Court of Moscow pronounced a decision to arrest in absentia Kureish Kartoev, accused of murdering the Eldjarkiev brothers, reported Yunona Tsareva, the spokesperson for the Basmanny Court of Moscow.

According to Yunona Tsareva, Kureish Kartoev was charged in absentia under Part 2 of Article 105 (murder of two or more persons) and under Part 3 of Article 222 (arms trafficking) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, the TASS reports today. "The suspect is put on the international wanted list," the "Sobesednik" quotes the spokesperson for the Basmanny Court of Moscow as saying.

Earlier, natives of Ingushetia have reported about the background of the Batal-Khadji community's claims to Ibragim Eldjarkiev. The activities of Ibragim Eldjarkiev at the Ingush Centre "E" posed a threat to the followers of the Batal-Khadji's doctrine, and there were calls among them to eliminate him, the "Caucasian Knot" was informed by former members of the Batal-Khadji community.
