Azerbaijani activist Gurbanov associates his detention with criticism of authorities

Law enforcers released oppositionist Arzuman Gurbanov after he had written an explanatory note about his alleged calls for participation in an unsanctioned rally. Arzuman Gurbanov said that law enforcers demanded from him to stop criticizing the Azerbaijani authorities on social networks.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Arzuman Gurbanov, an activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), was detained on November 8 and released on November 9.

According to Arzuman Gurbanov, the law enforcers' discontent was provoked by his criticism of the authorities. "They knew that I worked at the police. Maybe that is why they didn't even try to beat me ... When the Karabakh conflict started, I returned to Azerbaijan and took part in the defence of villages bordering Armenia," the activist explained.

Arzuman Gurbanov also reported that the law enforcers promised him to lift the ban on leaving the country imposed on him earlier.

"Even after the cancellation of the rally on November 2, law enforcers do not stop detentions of our activists," noted Gezyal Bairamly, the deputy chairperson of the PFPA.
