US uses recognition of Armenian Genocide to put pressure on Turkey
US congressmen recognized the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire to strengthen the US influence in the Middle East amid the Turkish military operation in Syria, political analysts and journalists suggest.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 29, the US House of Representatives voted in favour of the resolution on the recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
On Twitter, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan called the resolution of the US House of Representatives a historical event.
The US resolution was a consequence of the deterioration of the Turkey-United States relations, believes Ruben Safrastyan, a researcher engaged in the oriental studies.
"Turkey is moving closer to Russia, which, of course, provokes anger of the United States," the expert explained.
The adoption of the US resolution promotes the recognition of the Armenian Genocide throughout the world, Ruben Safrastyan believes.
The genocide of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire was recognized by more than 20 states, including Russia. Meanwhile, most countries of the world did not formally recognize the Armenian Genocide.
Kiro Manoyan, a member of the central bureau of the ARF "Dashnaktsutyun", called the US resolution a political victory.
