Georgia and South Ossetia exchange accusations of provocation

By hiding information from the Georgian society, the Georgian secret services pose a threat of open armed conflict on the border, states the KGB of South Ossetia. Today, the Georgian secret services have called the South-Ossetian KGB's statement an attempt to justify provocations from the South-Ossetian side.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Georgian side accused Russian border guards of installing on October 19 a barbed wire fence near the village of Atotsi, bordering South Ossetia. EU observers and the police arrived at the place.

The Georgian law enforcement bodies are preparing a "large-scale provocation" on the border. They pose a threat to both residents of the border areas and their own policemen, "deployed in sectors directly affected by the South-Ossetian border guard forces," the KGB of South Ossetia announced and warned of a threat of an "open armed conflict."

According to the KGB of South Ossetia, the State Security Service (SSS) of Georgia hides information about its plans from activists, journalists, and NGOs in their own country.

The State Security Service of Georgia called the above allegations misinformation. "Such provocative statements are a part of a disinformation campaign which the occupying forces, especially recently, have been actively using to justify the provocative actions they have inspired along the occupation line," the Georgian "First Channel" TV Channel quotes today an agent of the secret services as saying.
