Defence reports need to hospitalize Uzhakhov

Within a week, Malsag Uzhakhov, the head of the Ingush Council of Teips (family clans) has suffered two heart attacks, and needs treatment at the SIZO (pre-trial prison) medical unit, his advocate has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 9, Malsag Uzhakhov refused to attend the court session, explaining that he felt bad on the way to the courthouse in a paddy wagon. On September 11, Djabrail Kuriev, an Uzhakhov's advocate, reported a sharp deterioration in his client's health condition in the SIZO of Vladikavkaz.

Malsag Uzhakhov was arrested under the case of the attack on policemen during protest rally in Magas in March. The Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" declared him to be a political prisoner.

The defence finds it necessary to transfer Malsag to the SIZO's medical unit, Mr Kuriev has told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, noting that the respective petition has been agreed with Uzhakhov and will be submitted to the SIZO's bosses on September 16.

According to his story, the SIZO's internal medical service has conducted a medical examination of Malsag Uzhakhov and confirmed that within the last six days, September 5-10, he had had two heart attacks. "By today, his health condition has stabilized, but he still feels weak and dizzy," said the advocate.
