Eight Georgian citizens released from detention facility in Tskhinvali

People detained by border guards on August 20 were handed over to the Georgian authorities, the KGB of South Ossetia reported. The Georgian Prime Minister met the released people.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that eight Georgian citizens were detained on the border with South Ossetia and placed to a detention facility in Tskhinvali in the evening on August 17. According to the South-Ossetian authorities, the people were detained in the Tskhinvali District while being in the state of alcohol intoxication.

After they had paid fines for illegally crossing the state border, all eight detainees were handed over to the Georgian authorities. The appropriate decision was made by the Tskhinvali District Court, the KGB of South Ossetia reported.

In the village of Akhalubani, Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze met the people released from a detention facility in Tskhinvali. The Prime Minister noted that from the first minute, "the entire world community" was engaged in the process of securing the release of the detainees, the "InterPressNews" reports today.

Immediately after the detention of eight residents of the Gori District, the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) classified the actions of the South-Ossetian border guards as a kidnapping and blamed Russia for the incident.
