Exhibition draws attention to detentions of Georgian pre-border villagers

The exhibition "No to Occupation!" that opened in Tbilisi at the "Puenteseko" Club is timed to the 11th anniversary of the August 2008 war. Experts spoke at the exhibition about the consequences of the war on the villagers who found themselves in close proximity to the demarcation line, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

At the exhibition, David Katsarava, the head of the "Strength in Unity" movement, has told about the problems of residents of the villages, bordering on Abkhazia and South Ossetia, recalling, in particular, that they are regularly detained by Russian border guards deployed in Abkhazia and South Ossetia on charges of trespassing the border.

He proposed to equip the villagers with some device that could indicate, by using the GPS, their precise location, and equipped with an emergency button enabling to call for help. According to his version, each such device costs about USD 50. "The government fails to undertake the purchase of such devices; we'll try to raise money through volunteers," Mr Katsarava told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
