Opposition MPs with scandal leave meeting of Georgian parliament

The refusal to discuss at the meeting of the parliament the question concerning the resignation of the Georgian Interior Minister caused discontent of the opposition. After the conflict with members of the ruling party, the oppositionists left the parliamentary meeting in protest.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in Georgia, protest actions have been held since June 20. On June 21, law enforcers dispersed the protesters, and 240 people were taken to hospitals. The Georgian Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into the criminal case instituted on abuse of power by the law enforcers.

Today, at the plenary meeting, MPs from the oppositional "United National Movement" (UNM) and the "European Georgia" parties demanded to put on the agenda the issue concerning the Interior Minister Gakhariya's resignation. The oppositionists claimed that otherwise they would not let the parliament work.

MP Tinatin Bokuchava has noted that the demand comes not only from the opposition, but also from the public. However, Tamar Chugoshvili, the speaker of the parliamentary meeting, refused to consider the issue.

After a brief dispute, the oppositionists left the parliamentary meeting room in protest.
