Dagestani Chechens and residents of Shelkovskoy District support Kadyrov's reaction to road sign dismantling

The harsh reaction of Chechen authorities to the demolition of road signs on the Chechen-Dagestani border is adequate to the situation, the Chechens-Akkins living in Dagestan believe. The intervention of Chechen authorities has prevented a more serious conflict, residents of the Shelkovskoy District of the Chechen Republic consider.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at night on June 10, residents of the Dagestani city of Kizlyar demolished a signpost reading "Shelkovskoy District", and on June 12 it became known that two other similar signposts installed on the border of Chechnya with the Tarumovka District of Dagestan.

Kadyrov's threats have angered Dagestanis, who distrust their authorities and try to defend the republic's interests in their own way, Gadjimurad Sagitov, the editor-in-chief of the "Novoe Delo", has stressed.

Sultan Kasimov, the chairman of the youth organization "New Vainakh Generation", has treated the conflict with signposts on the Chechen-Dagestani border as a provocation.

Sultan Girimov, an Akkin activist and a resident of Kalininaul, is sure that the signposts were installed legally.

The unsolved issue of the Aukhov District gives a nationalistic coloration to any inter-subject conflict, said Umar Takhirgeran, a local resident.

The tough reaction of Chechen authorities the signpost dismantling has allowed preventing a more serious conflict, residents of the Shelkovskoy District believe. They told that now the road signs on the border of the two districts are guarded by law enforcers.
